Languages: a pathway to success

Languages: a pathway to success

Based on the accomplishments acquired by the end of maternelle, elementary school students continue studying English and at the same time comply with the AEFE circular 'AEFE language policy: towards a multilingual education'. This means offering a curriculum in both French and English that has been approved by the AEFE.

In elementary school there is a new structure for teaching English:

  • Five hours a week of oral and written English
  • One hour a week of history and Australian geography (taught in English)

This teaching in and of English is completed by a learning process in English called EMILE (teaching by subject incorporated in a foreign language). It is implemented through:

  • Forty-five minutes of music tuition a week
  • One hour a week of another subject from Years 1 to 5.
