The DRLC family charity gala day

The DRLC family charity gala day

The Des Renford Leisure Centre (DRLC) annually holds  their family charity gala day for the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute on Sunday 16 October from 7am to 5pm.

The centre will be openned to the public for an entry fee of $4, with all proceeds on the day going to support the Des Renford Chair of Heart Research Appeal.  There will be a giant pool inflatable, performances, face painters, pony rides, water rollers, go karts, characters, barbeques etc. for the public to enjoy.

This year will also be another attemp at the GUINNESS WORLD RECORD for the 'Largest Thong Sandal Race' which is the largest amount of people to do a 1km course around Heffron Park in thongs.
The race is a $10 entry fee which goes to The Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute (race entry also includes entry into the Charity Day, a stylish pair of DRLC thongs and participation medal!).
We are hoping this community event will generate extra support and awareness for the charity, while promoting a healthy lifestyle at the same time.
The World Record Attempt is due to start at 12pm, with registrations etc opening from 10am approximately.
The current World Record is held by a run club in America and stands at 805 people. We are hoping to get 1000 people to participate in our event (also because thongs are Australian and not American!).
