The Year 7 students become poets

The Year 7 students become poets

The visit of the Red Room Poetry Company was organised by Cybèle Gonzales to motivate and inspire the students in their study of poetry. The poet was Toby Fitch.

The children prepared by doing a series of activities based on talismanic objects such as drawing the objects, describing the objects using their five senses and predicting what aliens would use their objects for.

When the poet visited, he engaged the students in some mistranslation activities: the students deliberately translated wrongly French nursery rhymes in order to be playful with the language. Later on they did the rewriting of a poem,” Windows”, by Guillaume Apollinaire.

You can find some examples of these poems through this link.
